It features the most songwriting collaborations between Petty and lead guitarist Mike Campbell out of any Petty album. The Heartbreakers' approach when starting to work on the album in was to make it sound like a live recording. This technique was in marked contrast to the heavy studio production on the band's previous album, Southern Accents , and was influenced by touring as Bob Dylan 's backing band. The album received generally positive reviews from critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic described the album as "their simplest album since Hard Promises.

All tracks are written by Tom Petty , except where noted.. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Rock and roll heartland rock. I recall the album being panned by critics but I don't hear what they were panning. The album has good music with some good b sides. I really liked this record. It might not have been as commercially successful as some of their other albums, but it contains the hard-rocking at which the Heartbreakers are so good.

And, no pun intended, it has a lot of heart. I like their obscure tracks. A good release. One person found this helpful. Good classic album. Jammin' Me and Runaway Trains are excellent songs I enjoyed in my twenties. The rest of the album is easy on the ears. How Many More Days comes close to hidden gem quality. Those top two songs make the album a must have. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Even Tom and the band itself skipped over it in interviews and live performances.

Which is a shame because, whilst Let Me Up certainly isn't another 'Damn the Torpedoes', it's home to some great material. Remembered for the colossal, catchy lead single, 'Jammin' Me', the album tried to sound like a well-varnished live performance, after Bob Dylan who wrote the above song did a similar thing.

It kinda works, but to be honest it just sounds like another studio album to me. IF you're a die-hard Petty fan, you'll likely still find a lot of gold on here, or silver at the very least. I think it's worthy of any Petty collection, or rock in general, for that matter.

In vinyl, it also sounds brilliant, complete with picture sleeve and standard one, so you can choose which you'd rather nice - a really nice inclusion on most Petty vinyl reissues. Highly recommend. Report abuse.

So many great albums by this guy and what a great band. A real loss. Another gem from Petty and the Heartbreakers. Dutch Charts in Dutch. Retrieved August 13, Top singles and albums peaks from January until December Ryan, Gavin Australia's Music Charts The Official Charts Company.

Released: June 15, Label: Reprise. Released: November 1, Label: Warner Bros. Dylan 's presence proved to be a huge influence on the Heartbreakers , turning them away from the well-intentioned but slick pretensions of Southern Accents and toward a loose, charmingly ramshackle roots rock that harked back to their roots yet exhibited the professional eclecticism they developed during the mid-'80s. Not to say that Let Me Up is a perfect album -- far from it, actually.

Filled with loose ends, song fragments, and unvarnished productions, it's a defiantly messy album, and it's all the better for it, especially arriving on the heels of the well-groomed Accents.
